MSN Relevance Ranking Update Soon
MSN developers are busy at work behind the scenes trying to improve MSN Search. This is good news for all as we hope more users find options on where they search and find information and we don't have a single dominant player in the market.
The recently published paper by the Microsoft developers discusses a new Neural Net system they will be using to do relevance ranking. Preliminary results discussed on MSN Search's Weblog show how recent tests for the query "PBS Evolution Videos" has evolved their ranking relevance to bring the correct results to the top.
New Operators that MSN Search supports are:
- FileType: - Find items only of a specific file type
- InAnchor:
- InURL:
- InTitle:
- InBody: - The above 4 operators are to find data in a particular part of a document or anchor text pointing to a document.
MSN Search is also working hard to improve their Local Search Feature now integrates maps, yellow pages, white pages and web results.
