Star Wars: Descent of Darkness is now open to ALL players. While DoD uses SWFotE as a base, it has been modified considerably. DoD uses a classless system with no dependency on levels for skill learning. DoD's tiered skill system requires players to learn skills of lesser difficulty before being able to learn advanced skills. Unlike standard FotE-based muds, instead of having separate levels for each class, DoD uses a single overall level.
DoD has several features that allow for promotion of a pro-RP environment including customizable tones for speaking, customizable movement for walking, a ranking system within clans and an advanced bounty system. DoD tries to create a sense of realism with the use of attribute points, requiring navigational charts for hyperspace travel, an automated mob bounty system, a system for the taxing of galactic citizens and allowing for the election of governmental leaders.
DoD also has the following enhancements installed; MXP for point and click ability, MCCP for faster transmission of data, Client Speed to adjust the amount of data sent/received, an account system that allows for multiple character management and an advanced mob chat system.
