Star Wars: The Old Republic Review (PC)
Star Wars: The Old Republic will be the second attempt to adapt the "Star Wars" universe into a graphical MMORPG. Bioware had a lot of success with Knights of the Old Republic, so people have naturally had high expectations for this new title. In many ways it's a conventional MMORPG, but it does have a few unique features, which we dicuss in our review.Star Wars: The Old Republic Review (PC) originally appeared on About.com Internet Games on Thursday, February 9th, 2012 at 17:46:28. Tribes: Ascend Beta Impressions
The early Tribes games are fondly remembered for their high-speed action, and many have yearned for another addition to this series, which hasn't seen a new release since 2004's Tribes: Vengeance. Hi-Rez Studios, the makers of Global Agenda, is breathing new life into the franchise with Tribes: Ascend, a free-to-play game that is currently in closed beta. I`ve been getting schooled in jetpacking and skiing, so here are my first impressions of Tribes: Ascend.Tribes: Ascend Beta Impressions originally appeared on About.com Internet Games on Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 at 18:13:06. MMORPGs: Why So Few Sandboxes?
Themepark-stlye MMORPGs seem to be everywhere these days, but a lot people would like to see another big-budget game take the sandbox approach. It has been a long wait, however, and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot on the horizon for sandbox fans. Are sandbox MMORPGs destined to be low-budget niche products? Here's my take on why themeparks have come to dominate the genre.MMORPGs: Why So Few Sandboxes? originally appeared on About.com Internet Games on Sunday, January 29th, 2012 at 20:22:50. WoW: Mists of Pandaria Talent Overhaul
Big changes are on the way for World of Warcraft's Talent system. With the release of Mists of Pandaria, the old Talent system is being turfed and a much simpler set of Talent options will take its place. After years of adjustments to Talents, opinion varies over whether they're making it better or worse. These are my first impressions of the new system, and whether it really limits player options.WoW: Mists of Pandaria Talent Overhaul originally appeared on About.com Internet Games on Saturday, January 28th, 2012 at 23:42:26. SWTOR Crafting Basics
One thing Star Wars: The Old Republic does a little differently is crafting, with companions that alleviate some of the tedium typically associated with crafting in MMORPGs. If you want to get off to a good start with your SWTOR character's crafting skills, we've put together an introduction to the game's crafting system.SWTOR Crafting Basics originally appeared on About.com Internet Games on Sunday, January 22nd, 2012 at 22:50:15. MMORPGs: The Difficulty Dilemma
Ideally a game gives players an enjoyable challenge without being frustratingly difficult. Of course, we all have different ideas about how difficult a game should be, which makes finding the right balance a delicate art. MMORPGs are often accused of having become too easy in recent years, so this week we address the difficulty dilemma.MMORPGs: The Difficulty Dilemma originally appeared on About.com Internet Games on Wednesday, January 18th, 2012 at 21:15:11. MMORPGs: Are Voice-Overs Now Mandatory?
With more 200,000 lines of recorded dialogue, Star Wars: The Old Republic earned a Guinness World Record for being the largest entertainment voice-over project to date. Other MMORPGs have offered relatively small amounts of voice dialogue, but SWTOR has voice-overs for all its quests, which is very large undertaking. Will this become the new standard for MMORPGs, or will gamers be willing to go back to reading? Here are my thoughts on the subject.MMORPGs: Are Voice-Overs Now Mandatory? originally appeared on About.com Internet Games on Saturday, January 14th, 2012 at 22:50:44. SWTOR Nexus Guild Leader Interview
After a long run in World of Warcraft, it's to be expected that many players and guilds are ready for something different. Nexus is one guild that is moving to Star Wars: The Old Republic, so this week we get some insight from guild leader Michael Willenzik on the making the transition.SWTOR Nexus Guild Leader Interview originally appeared on About.com Internet Games on Wednesday, January 11th, 2012 at 22:48:16. PlanetSide Retrospective
PlanetSide has created a legacy that few other online shooters can match, perhaps because we haven't seen anything on quite the same scale since. Of course, PlanetSide 2 is now in the works, and it got me to thinking about PlanetSide, why it was so much fun, and why I'm not still playing it, although I have revisited it a couple times over the years. Here's a little trip down PlanetSide memory lane.PlanetSide Retrospective originally appeared on About.com Internet Games on Sunday, January 8th, 2012 at 21:09:37. Permalink | Comment | Email this

Game Review Scores and Metacritic
Game review scores still manage to stir up quite a bit of controversy, especially when one falls well outside the average for a particular title. And the averages themselves, conveniently compiled by Metacritic, are often taken as definitive proof of a game's quality, or lack thereof, and the content of the reviews goes largely ignored. Today we wade into the long-running debate about whether game review scores have become meaningless.Game Review Scores and Metacritic originally appeared on About.com Internet Games on Friday, December 30th, 2011 at 20:55:06.
